U.S. Huntsville Land Office - Receivers' daybooks, 1814-1834.

Receiver's daybooks record the daily financial transactions of the Receiver of Public Monies. Each single-entry transaction refers to a corresponding ledger or journal through numbers in the left column. The type of transaction is recorded with totals in the right column and at the bottom of each page. Each transaction relates to sales of public lands and includes information such as the name of the buyer, total amount received, total acreage, price per acre, amount paid in cash, amount paid in stock and total price. Sometimes the location of the land and receipt number are also included. These records document the daily activity of the Receiver and the total amount of money received at the district land office. Often there will be several daybooks covering the same period of time and some volumes are labeled with letters of the alphabet.
